Heidelberg, one of Europe's leading clusters in cancer treatment and research, recognised the potential of precision medicine for oncology early on and was one of the winners of the nationwide Leading-Edge Cluster Competition in 2008 under the motto "personalised medicine".
Since the clinical application of individual therapy approaches is based on the rapid generation and evaluation of large amounts of patient data, ideally collected in a minimally invasive way, liquid biopsy is a cornerstone of precision medicine.
