Construction modules float in: Next new building on the hip

Construction modules float in: Next new building on the hip to be completed by the end of the year - Technology Park and BioLabs as users.

Prof. Dr. Eckart Würzner "Important landmark of our innovation quarter".

The Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip) on Speyerer Straße is getting another addition: Gustav Zech Stiftung Management GmbH (GZSM) is responsible for the building, which is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. The Heidelberg Technology Park and BioLabs have already been confirmed as future users. BioLabs is a U.S. operator of co-working labs and offices that is now setting up its first German branch in Heidelberg. Prof. Dr. Eckart Würzner visited the construction location on Tuesday, June 28.

Once the building is completed, Heidelberg Technology Park will become the tenant and BioLabs will in turn become its subtenant. The Technology Park already operates the immediately adjacent "Business Development Center," which also provides young founders with professional start-up assistance for their companies.

"The Heidelberg Technology Park has been providing medical startups with laboratories and offices for almost thirty years," says André Domin, Managing Director of the Heidelberg Technology Park. "With Johannes Fruehauf and his BioLabs team, we have found a partner that offers startup teams shared use of fully equipped laboratories and excellent support. BioLabs teams can immediately focus on research and development from the moment they move in, as the working environment means everything is optimally aligned with drug approval and device development processes. Just like renting a single desk in a co-working space to start a business, founders can now rent a single lab bench without having to go through the tedious process of purchasing furniture, installing equipment, and managing biological safety lab approvals. This complete package is a great relief, especially for founders in medicine, and an important component of our startup support."

We are delighted to have reached the milestone of this innovation project.
